In defense of Ewing Klipspringer.
Now many of you have heard outright boldfaced lies about Jay Gatsby’s butler, one
Ewing Klipspringer. This is a man who harmed no one person, but he has been in fact vilified as a
shiftless freeloader.Mr. Klipspringer served Gatsby well and was always obedient to his gracious host. He earned his keep by doing Gatsby’s requests, even playing the piano when he was all out of practice.
It was Ewing’s musical genius that provided the melodic interlude in which Gatsby and his lady love Daisy fell in love. It was Ewing’s masterful performance that allowed Gatsby to fulfill his fondest dream; that of winning Daisy’s heart.
Needless to say Nick Caraway did not fare as well with his significant other, Jordan Baker. So we may assume that Nick was jealous of the happiness of Jay Gatsby and Daisy, in contrast to his lack of progress with the decidedly unfeminine Jordan Baker.
By expansion Nick transferred this hatred to the innocent Ewing Klipspringer that he repeatedly backstabs. Nicks talks about Ewing doing
